Grief & Loss
Beginning therapy is the daring hope that things will get better and joy is possible. Grief, loss, and scarcity often create barriers to joy. These mental states show up in a few ways, such as:
Responding to a complicated death or dying process
The loss of a dream, idea, or wish
Leaving a job, retiring, or changing an occupation
Moving to a new community
Ending a friendship, partnerships, or relationship
Adjusting to a new or advancing medical condition
What are some barriers to Joy?
How can therapy help with grief and loss?
When our grief becomes too heavy to carry alone, it can be helpful to share the burden with a trained professional. As our grief moves up, down, and around our lives, our needs may vary, too.
Many seek a safe, compassionate space to express intense and often conflicting feelings.
i feel overwhelmed starting therapy
Finding support while you’re grieving can feel completely overwhelming. When clients start therapy with me, there are three easy steps:
1) Reach out
2) Complete new client paperwork (this is done online and takes about 15 minutes)
3) Come to the first session
Sometimes, it’s helpful to ask a friend, spouse, or trusted colleague for assistance with the initial communication or sitting with you while completing the paperwork. Our sessions can be via telehealth if that feels right.
