INTIMACY COORDINATION

What is an Intimacy Coordinator?

Intimacy Coordinators (IC) are trained professionals that support performers and production when there is nudity, hyper exposure of a body, intimate physical touch, and simulated sex in film and television

Hiring an intimacy coordinator allows for ethical and brave storytelling

When you hire V as your IC, here’s what you can expect:

  • Thorough script analysis to identify areas of support and level of care

  • Assessment for potential risks and plan to improve safeguards

  • Individual actor calls to define the intersection of boundaries and vision

  • Coordination with department heads to ensure smooth filming

  • Providing language for nudity and simulated sex riders

  • Employing safe and collaborative choreography techniques so performers feel confident and in control

FAQs

  • As soon as possible! Successful, safe, and smooth filming requires extensive pre-production work. Urgency and incomplete planning opens up a production to unnecessary risk for the cast and crew.

  • If you hold an artistic leadership role in a production, you’re likely busy with a million important tasks!

More important, ICs aim to make sets safer and more inclusive. This means having a designated safety professional that diffuses the power imbalance actors often feel when working with a leader.

  • For a SAG-AFTRA production, IC rates are compared to Stunt Coordinator rates. Here is the SAG-AFTRA Agreement Wage Scales.

For a non-union production, please contact V for rates and availability.

Rates are determined by: production budget, scope of work, timeline needed, travel, and if additional mental health coordination is needed.
